Don’t Let the Bed Bugs Bite! June 24, 2009

Filed under: General — Andrew & Amanda LeJeune @ 7:22 pm

Okay yesterday evening at supper Andrew took off his shoes and socks and found around 20 bug bites all over his feet and legs.  They were forming hard heads, almost like ant bites, and were pretty good and swollen.  I had realized yesterday also that I had a big bite in the crease of my knee.  Anyway, so we were going back and forth over what could have caused them, where we’ve been lately, etc.  Then Andrew throws out, “What if it’s bed bugs.”  I was like, “No no,  it’s not that. Our bed is like brand new and they look more like mosquito bites or something.”

But with that phrase, we sort of got a little nervous.  Our friends Fallon and Steve had had a rough time getting rid of theirs a little while back and so it was fresh on our minds as to what they had to go though.  Sooo….we ripped off all the sheets and scoured the bed seams to see if we could find some tiny pin head dots (supposedlyt bed bug poop!).  We had called Fallon and Steve and they agreed to come over and check it out with us because we kept seeing specs of stuff and wondering if it was dirt of bug poo.

Fallon and Steve showed up and to our relief that said we did NOT have little buggers!!! whoo hooo! We were so relieved.  Fallon and Steve had to through out their mattress, something we did NOT want to do at all.  Our bed was our wedding gift from my parents and is such an awesomely soft and cushy bed.  So like I said, we were so relieved. Andrew said he was never so relieved to have mosquito bites or whatever kind of bites they were before.

As we went to bed Andrew rolled over and said, “Good night. Don’t let the bed bugs bite!” Haha.

Here Comes the Sun…Bah Bah Bah Bah June 22, 2009

We had a fun weekend.  Friday Andrew went out and put out his resume to all our local staffing agencies.  He had an encouraging time at one place that mentioned they might be able to get him an interview with the Brazos Valley Action Agency as a Director.  They are supposed to be interviewing this Friday.  Maybe we’ll get an interview?!  This past week was a little more encouraging for us in the job hunt as we found 2 jobs that would give Andrew some counseling experience.  So we worked on his resume and cover letters for those.   Please keep Andrew in your prayers so that he will have confidence, assertiveness, courage, and perseverance in waiting.

Our friends Courtney and Joseph came over on Friday night and we grilled steaks (thanks Mom!) and had a yummy meal together.  It was good to see them. Then we were all sitting around and chatting and I asked Courtney and Joseph if they had seen the movie “Up.”  They hadn’t and we hadn’t either, so we checked the movie times.  The movie started in 5 minutes! So we raced out the door and went and saw it in 3-D.  It was a really good movie and very entertaining with a deep message that made me cry.  But if you haven’t seen it, I’d recommend it.  Pixar has been doing pretty well lately on the stuff they are producing.

Saturday was a slow easy going day.  We took Andrew’s car to the shop to get it analyzed.  Then we went in search of pricing out slipcovers for our new piece of furniture my Dad brought us from back home when he came up for graduation.  It’s a nice piece of furniture and provides more seating space for us and anyone we have over.  It’s a little roughed up on the edges but more importantly it’s got fish all over it!  If you know my husband,  you know that he LOVES fishing.  Which is great. I love it too…just maybe not on my loveseat.  It says, “Good catch” and “tackle” on it.   Andrew asked me to keep it as his man chair, but it totally doesn’t’ match anything that we have in our living room.  So hence the searching for a slipcover.  Andrew agreed to compromise with me.  If I get to cover the fishing stuff,  I need to put a picture of him with his red fish he recently caught and he asked if I’d make him a fish pillow.  We’re also compromising with the colors of our living room.  I like teal, he likes brown.  So there you are.  It also happens to be the cheaper way of decorating for us because I already had a few teal pieces.  So our home is a work in progress.  I wish I had someone to come in and look at all my stuff and reorganize and use what I have to make it all coordinate together.  Oh yeah.  And I’d like for it to be free or nearly free 😀  Know anyone like that?!  For now, I’m trying to get ideas and slowly try to learn how to make my home look “put together.”

Saturday night Andrew took me stargazing.  We went out and laid down on the side of a country road and watched the stars.  Andrew saw a shooting star! It was nice except there were a lot of cars that kept driving down this road and Andrew felt a little afraid someone would do something silly like throw water balloons or eggs on us!! haha. Maybe we need a new spot.

Sunday we both read for a while and then we went and played disc golf for the first time! It was fun to be together outside, walking around and playing a game.  I enjoy Andrew so much!  But sad day, we lost one of our brand new discs to the bushes.  We tried to f ind it, but couldn’t.  I think we might try again at a later date to see if we can’t track it down.  We know it’s gotta be in there somewhere.

So did I tell y’all I cut my hair?! Yeah,  it’s above my shoulders now.  I like it.  It always takes some getting used to for me in fixing it and making it look good, but it’s nice with the temperature at a steady 100 degrees most days or higher!! Sheesh.  It’s hot.  It makes me long for the pool after work so badly.  I feel I could just jump in clothes and all, which come to think of it sounds like an Aggie tradition….pond hopping anyone?

Trying to stay cool, trying to stay hopeful, trying to grow in the Lord, trying to have a whole lot of fun!  Hope your enjoying summer as well.

A Little Bit a B&B June 17, 2009

B&BWe were totally spoiled this weekend over the celebration of Paul and Kelsey’s wedding.  Her parents put us up in this cute little bed & breakfast ( a first for us!) and it was one of the most relaxing weekends we’ve had in a long time.   Andrew and I got to sleep in 2 mornings in a row and enjoy time together praying outside here and separately.  This place was just precious and we soaked it up.  Comfort, TX is not very big, but it has a quaint little downtown area that we hung out in.

The wedding was also sweet and cozy.  They were married in this little historic chapel.  She was beautiful and Picture 110the after party was a lot of fun!

It was fun getting to be there this weekend with them.

We are trying to see if we can go back to this part of Texas for our anniversary which is next month! WOW!  A whole entire year of marriage almost.  It feels strange to say that.  It’s been a beautiful and exciting year for us.  It’s been rough too, don’t get me wrong, but all the beauty is in sanctification, deeper friendship with my husband, and greater love for one another.  Marriage is a blessing and so is my husband.  I truly appreciate  him.

Partay Weekend June 9, 2009

We went down to Mom & Dad’s for the weekend to watch by really big younger brother graduate from high school, to go to Allison’s bridal shower, and to hangout with the family.  It was a very fun weekend, and very busy too.

Stephen walked the stage and it was a nice evening outside where it was held.  We had a really fun after party for him at our house. Picture 035 He’s going to be attending Hardin Simmons University in the Fall, playing football for them, and studying Physical Therapy.  Way to go little bro!

The next day after Andrew got I think 3.5 hours of sleep, him and my grandfather went my home churches’ fishing tournament.  They went out with a guide and Andrew loved it.  He caught a 22 inch red fish!  He loves fishing. It’s one of his passions.  I’m thankful that I enjoy it too. Not as much as he does, but it’s fun.  I really enjoy catching more than fishing! We get to eat some yummy fish now. My mom loaded us up with all the fish that they brought home, including some flounder.

Look at that smile! He was so thrilled.  This weekend we also saw my littlest brother Joel play with his newly formed band.  There are four of them. They don’t have a name,  but they were good.  They sing a lot of just up beat fun songs. And I was really proud of him when I heard they made it a rule to not sing any songs that had foul language or sex. And they play christian songs as well. They performed, “My Girl” and “I’m Yours” by Jason Mraz, and some others.  It was fun.  We all went and ate at the restaurant that they played at and listened.  Both of my brothers are very talented.  And studs!

We had a lot of fun talking with my family, hanging out in the pool, planning wedding stuff, and getting pampered by my parents.  They are very generous givers, especially my Mom, who sent me on my way with many of her clothes 🙂  We are very thankful for them and their wisdom and prayer life that includes us all the time.

Allison got showered on Saturday morning! She got many gifts and so many ladies from our home church came.  I hand made Allison an apron, oven mitt, and dish towels.

My sister is getting married August 22nd. Not too far away.  I’m excited for them.  And I’m excited that Josh will be a part of our family.

She’s cute huh!

Next weekend will be the 3rd weekend in a row that we’ve missed church.  It’s been weird not to be there.  I’m looking forward to a time of fellowship with our new newly married couples homegroup.  We’re going to be reading over the books “For Women/Men Only.”

Andrew feels pretty sure of God’s calling to pursue a counseling degree.  So we’re praying that if God is really in this then he’ll open the doors.  We’ll be preparing for this though.  We’ll be looking into schools and saving up.  Please continue to pray for us. Pray that Andrew’s motives and his heart behind this would be purified consistently.  We don’t want to enter in this field because of any bitterness towards his past or anything of the sort. Pray that God continues to give clarity.

Down in the Bayou June 4, 2009

Andrew and I went up to Louisiana last weekend to visit his dad’s parents.  It was my first trip over there.  Friday night we drove into Houston and ate with Darrel and Susan at this really neat restaurant called Taste of Texas.  They had scripture on the back of their menu! It was awesome food and a really neat antique/rustic environment paired with awesome staff and low lighting.

The next day we headed to Elton, L.A. for the rest of our weekend.  When we arrived we ate lunch together and then Andrew wanted to take me around and look at all his growing up spots.  He’s been wanting to show me this place for a while, so it was neat to go visit.  Grandma and Grandpa live in a modest place out in the country.  I’m taking BAYOU y’all.  It was like another world up there.  They have food called Bodan (pronounced bow-dan) and then they say, “Are you boodannin?” meaning pouting and they eat dirty rice and have alligators down the street!  Supposedly someone had seen one close by Andrew’s grandparents house and so we set out a little adventure.

So we grabbed a BB gun (for protection of course) and headed down the road to see if we could see it in a ditch on the side of the road.  Well we didn’t end of finding the alligator BUT we did see some snakes.  So we both came back with a catch. Look here!Snakes We look tough huh?  We were trying to not touch them by hanging over the end of the gun and a stick but they kept sliding off every 15 sec. so we decided to get brave and pick them up by the tail.

We also played basketball, picked fresh blackberries right out of their sweet garden (they put me to shame!), and cooked out with the family.  It was a fun and quick weekend that made us feel like for a second we were in a different world!
